March 2026 – The pop-up exhibition “Pulsating Canvas” brings a dynamic blend of colors and emotions to Prague’s Lesser Town. From March 25 to 28, the ART 47 Gallery in Prague’s Malá Strana will host a new pop-up exhibition by Dutch artist Julien van Middendorp. Titled “Pulsating Canvas,” the exhibition will feature a collection of works inspired by modern culture, technology, and an ever-changing reality.

The Dark Side of the Modern World

The exhibition will feature a series of paintings that reflect the dynamics of the contemporary world and its contrasts. From the neon glow of urban scenes to the darker undertones of the digital age—each work tells a story that draws the viewer into an internal dialogue between reality and fiction.

“Julien van Middendorp is a Dutch painter who captures human daily life in its routine ordinariness in a unique way. His greatest inspiration is the dynamics of the urban environment—its movement, changeability, and constant flux. However, his studies of stained-glass art in Utrecht have also had a significant influence on his work. It is precisely the principle of assembling individual fragments into a harmonious whole that permeates his entire body of work,” says exhibition curator Barbora Markovská, M.A.

A Painter Who Blends Colors and Emotions

Julien van Middendorp is a Dutch painter whose work straddles the line between abstraction and expressionism. His oil paintings capture the pulsating energy of city life, the contrasts of light and shadow, as well as the tension between chaos and harmony. The colors in his works are not merely a visual element, but a means of expressing emotions, ideas, and stories. He often finds inspiration in the structures and rhythms of architecture. One of the key moments in his artistic development was his encounter with the work of Friedensreich Hundertwasser, whose organic forms and fascination with color left a strong imprint on Julien’s paintings as well. His painting *Walk of Life* is a tribute to this architectural gem—every color and line here has its own meaning and contributes to the overall impression of dynamism and movement.

Since 2014, he has been living and working in the Czech Republic, where his work has gained recognition both among collectors and at exhibitions in prestigious galleries, including Galerie Art Linea and the international ART Prague fair.
